Monthly Archives: December 2016
Hello everybody! During this month I have received a few new plastic free items. The first one is a new toothbrush (finally, really needed it)- I have really been loving the one I had before, but I have been wanting to try out other brands as well. So far I really like this one from Zero Waste shop. It is made from bamboo and the bristles are biodegradable Nylon4, which is also BPA free. Also from Zero Waste shop I found stainless steel chop sticks and boy have I been looking for those. I always feel that bamboo or wooden chopsticks are damaged from multiple uses, so for me the solution is definitely stainless steel. The chop sticks fit perfectly in my purse, so whenever I am out to eat I can bring my own. Before these, I took the “single use” ones with me home and repurposed them or washed them. Now, I have my very own reuseable pair! Thank you, Zero Waste shop, for giving me a chance to try out your items. Although the products are sponsored, the views and ideas in this post are entirely my own, obviously. All good vibes!
Hello everybody! I got a few questions on Instagram about the notion of Christmas and what to do with gifts and so on. I thought I would address that today. Something I always do around situations where gift giving is in order, is that I express wishes and preferences beforehand. I try to do as much as I can to let the people close to me know that the matter of waste and trash is something that I care deeply about. Trust me, letting people know about your passions and interests will increase the likelihood of reduced trash.
But what if you still get something that is wrapped in plastic, or is made of plastic even? For me it is extremely important to be grateful no matter what, and no lifestyle is worth burnt bridges, as least that is my opinion. I try to pick my battle carefully when I am in situations where trash is produced, because sometimes it is going to happen, to everybody. I try to save the wrapping paper if possible, and I try to, at least, sort the waste so something goes to recycling rather than landfill.
Regarding the gift, I know some people suggested that you could use the non-zero waste gifts to give to other people, however that is not the approach I necessarily want to promote. Of course depending on the size, price and personal thought that is put into the gift, the acceptable next movie changes, but overall, I consider it a bit rude to pass something on immediately after receiving it yourself, just because it doesn’t suit your beliefs. It is easy to seem spoiled or a bit bratty I think. This statement is mostly related to presents with some personal value. On the other hand, if there is talk an item which to both parts proves unimportant, I see no problem returning it, donating it or giving it away. But for me, the most important thing here is avoid hurting the gift-giver’s feelings, so therefore: if there is any chance the gift-giver will get hurt because you did not keep the present, keep it, find use for it. If neither of you are attached to the item then find it a new home.
I hope this made some sort of sense, at least a little bit. This is my personal opinion towards gifts and zero waste and although it might not be shared by everyone, I hope you can see where I am coming from. Be respectful and be kind. Only good vibes from here.
Hello everybody! We are almost at the end of 2016, therefore I wanted to spend the last few days talking about how my year went, both in terms of zero waste as well as in posts and videos. This time around, I am taking you guys through some of the most shared, commented, liked, or what else, posts from 2016. If you have not read them yet, the timing is perfect, and if you have, how about a reread? Before going into the actual post – thank you for keeping with me and reading my posts, following my updates and watching my videos. The blog has never had such an amazing following as it has right now, and it keeps growing! I am so grateful for this amazing support and I hope you will stay with me during 2017. All the best vibes from G.
1.Beauty Products You Don’t Need: I wrote this post in mere spite of the amount of makeup, and products, other Youtubers and brands, and who else, want us to believe we need. All bollocks to say it clearly. I have been using coconut oil as an alternative – that is truly a neat way of saving a ton of packaging and waste.
2. Plastic Free Hair and Skin Care With Isangs: Keeping with the theme of beauty and skincare, I fell completely in love with Isangs this year. I also used the cocoa butter and shea butter (in naked packaging!) from Isangs to create my own homemade whipped body butter. I am so fond of their shampoo bars as well as their oils and butters, still one of my favourite stores.
3. Zero Waste Food Diary: These posts have been so requested this year, I really like making them, so that is fantastic! I love showing you guys how I manage my zero waste lifestyle on an everyday basis. So please, if you want posts like this in the future, don’t be afraid to ask. Food Diary 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
4. Why I Only Need 1 Pair of Jeans: You guys really liked my whole minimalist wardrobe talk. I am still scaling down on clothes, but during 2016 I found that I only need one pair of jeans, which I take bloody good care, may I note. I also talk a lot about what my wardrobe looked like before I went zero waste.
5. What To Do With Left-Over Veggies?: Lastly, a food tip. I do not like throwing stuff away, not before I am completely certain that I have no other use for it. In this last post, I give my tips on how to make those left-overs last, whilst finding neat ways to use veggie scraps.
Hello everybody! Just a quick update to wish you all a merry Christmas, aaaand to show you what I spent yesterday making. I made a new batch of my homemade body butter, my second batch that is. The first one lasted a year, which is crazy! The other thing I made is a homemade lip scrub, which can be used as a body scrub as well, if you have enough of it. I have been thinking about the recipe for some time now, and it turned out so great! I am making a recipe video in January, so stay tuned. I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and I will see you over on Instagram, where I will be posting a bit today and tomorrow. All the good vibes from me to you!
Hello everybody! As I am currently in no condition to carry tons of canvas bags back and forth, or leave the flat for that matter, my fiancée does the shopping – and will be doing so for more than a month. Even though I am injured, zero waste is still extremely important to me. Luckily, it is important to him as well. I just wanted to show you what the food we will be having the next through days, as we are going to stay with my family during the holidays, he only bought food for three days max. We have some cauliflower, spinach, salad, carrots, avocados, limes, a mango, tomatoes, clementines, radishes and a pineapple. oh and some locally farmed chicken too, as he still wants some meat now and then. Although I think we will have some food to spare, and that we will be bringing with us as snacks. I also included a picture of the amount of trash this shopping trip produced, it is an elastic band, some paper tags, and some stickers. Pretty good I’ll say!
If you want to know more about how and where I do my zero waste grocery shopping, check the video which I linked above. Good vibes!
